Doctorate Degrees: Are they worth it?

In a country where the rate of unemployment has not decreased much, and in one where the economic condition has not significantly increased over the past years, the need for further education has always been felt.

An interesting infographich which shows whether Doctorate programs in the US are worth the time and money.

Ubuntu completes 9 Years

OMG Ubuntu released this beautiful infographic, which talks about the history of Ubuntu … I have literally grown (yes, even my waist) as a person when working with Ubuntu. Here’s a look back at the history of Ubuntu.

I have been using Ubuntu since 2004, when I only used to flirt with Linux. What tickled me back then was the Ubuntu was afrikaans for freedom.

2006 was the first time when I stopped using Windows altogether and worked for 2 straight years on Dapper Drake. Those were the days, when I was single, was in Hyderabad and spent consecutive new years eves drinking a single malt and installing a new version of Ubuntu.

As I look back and see how working on Ubuntu has impacted me, and my preferred style of working, I only appreciate that this distro has made such a huge impact on personal computing, that its being used by non-techies to do day to day work. It is because of such distros the Linux has been touted as the future of gaming.

How to Ace a Job Interview

When I was going for my first interview, no one told me this … however as time went by, all of us learnt the hard way.

  • Always sit upright in the chair, slightly lean forward
  • Never cross your arms or legs, that makes your posture defensive
  • Always smile and be forthcoming about your weaknesses
  • Be honest and do not be afraid to say “I don’t know”

After a decade of working and interviewing people, this infographic is a great summary of what are the basic things you should do when going for an interview.

WordPress Security Plug-ins

I had earlier written about the top 5 Plug-ins that I use with WordPress, and I realized that I had not talked about any Security Plug-ins!!

So let me share this out in the open with all of you, I like all the other webmasters value security … very, very much. Why? Well, it keeps my mind at ease knowing that my site is a bit secure from all the malicious entities and bots out there looking to spam my site.

Having said that puts my mind at ease, I do use a security plug-in with my blog (you are most welcome to check – Do not take this as an open invitation and consent to do intrusion on the site though !!).

This is a beautiful visualization that I found on the interwebs, and thought that I might re-share this with all of you. In case if you do not use a WordPress Security plug-in, please do so at the earliest! In case if you do, check the below infographic to see whether your plug-in makes the top 10!

Checklist for International SEO

international seo checklist

I always get into a quandary when it comes to setting up the SEO strategy for a site which spans across multiple geographies. What would the best course of action be, to use sub-directories and depend on the equity of the main site, or to spawn separate Top Level Domains (TLDs) and increase the quanta of work.

In fact sometimes this becomes a case of Analysis-Paralysis … inaction which comes from considering too many pros and cons.

This is where Aleyda Solis has shined through with a simple infographic for people like me. Here’s the gist of this, and that’s why I love this infographic –

If you have content for all the different TLDs, then go ahead with multiple TLDs since that’s the best approach. If you do not have that much content, then you can use language based sub-directories with the hreflang attribute and meta content language.

Perfect Posts On Social Platforms

When it comes to maintaining your presence on different Social Media networks, the key to this is timing, consistency and knowing what your audience appreciates. As your channel matures, your audience will start realizing that your updates are according to a schedule, which means your interested audience can know exactly when to check your channel for news they can use.

The time in these platforms and the platforms themselves should also give you a cue as to which social update to put where and when.
