Change and chancefulness in my flowering youthtime,

IPE taking on Ibibo!

I was just checking out the alexa rankings of this new site I read about in Deccan Chronicle (yeah! sometimes I do read newspapers … no, I actually dont!!). Its apparently the firstIndian pr0n toon star (the IPE in the title stands for Indian Porn Empire)!! Her name is Savita Bhabhi, and the site is a daily comic strip of her shall we say “exploits”.

I compared the pageviews of savitabhabhi dot com to ibibo dot com (no links, I do not wish to link myself to these sites), and lo behold! check out for yourself …

Just an interesting piece of stats and comparison, if nothing else. But, isnt it interesting to note that the same time the traffic stats on ibibo went down, those on savitabhabhi went up.

Sidenote – What do you think would be ibibo’s target market?

PS – This post in no ways is an attempt to offend any of the owners of the sites mentioned.

Corporate Pujari!

At eYantra Ind Ltd, we have a very nice culture of weekly pooja. Every Friday evening, the employees assemble in front of the office’s devghar and the pooja begins. This rite is performed by our Accounts manager (I do not think its just a coincidence!), Mr. Koteswara Rao. Personally speaking, I like this weekly rite being a god fearing person myself.

Today, while I was talking to one colleague on this, he informed me that many Indian corporates are into this, a lot of SMEs, and some big ones like Satyam as well. He then went on to inform me that his friend does this for a living!! He goes to Satyam every week, and they have set up this employee pooja fund, which is given to the pujari as dakshina! And a pretty decent amount at that. So true, how many of us do take the time to do a small pooja every day? Its not surprising then that many of us dont even know how to proceed when its needed. My daily ritual consists of a simple incense stick and a small prayer, but for formal occassions, I would definitely want one Corporate Pujari for myself!!

Interesting business no? In fact a friend of a friend has launched a business of his own just on this theme. Its known as Sacred Moments, wherein he supplies to individuals and businesses with kits for occassions like these. Looks like some people are into Corporate Karma after all.

Facebook a matrimony site?

How many of you lot have hit on/flirted with the opposite sex on some social networking site or the other? Oh … c’mon be honest, I know a lot of us have done it. In fact, there is a Facebook app site dedicated solely for that purpose. So do not tell me that you haven’t, I know that you did (smug smile).

Trust us desis to find a unique usage for the likes of orkut, facebook, myspace, et al!! As they say – Majboori ka naam hain Mahatma Gandhi!!

After 10 years of posting this (exactly 10 in fact), Facebook has announced Facebook Dating. Since, they we have had multiple apps most notably Tinder who are addressing this need.

Do you identify with your genre of music?

What I mean to say is that when you are listening to a particular genre or an artiste, then do you feel the emotion of that song within you? Sometimes I think that most of the bands which have shot to fame are not simply because they write good melodies or great lyrics … its because their target group can identify with the emotion underneath the song.

Do you not want to listen to a specific genre depending on your emotion?

Think about it in this way … a fan of Marilyn Manson, would most likely be wearing gothic makeup, would have had a troubled teenage life, feels unduly wronged … a fan of DJ Tiesto or Paul Oakenfield would love to dance to a good tune and definitely loves a smooth life … Linkin Park listeners would have a pent up frustration within themselves, occassionally wanting to shout out against the system.

So whats your groove?

What do you do when you seem to be cruising on a wide highway … and suddenly out of no-where a sharp corner comes into view? Well, you hit the brakes, slow down and turn with the curve.

Fair enough, you can drive. What would you do when the same analogy applies to your life?

Let me explain, what is a person supposed to do when he realizes that the nice and easy life is going to change (I never said end) … mostly for the better. But the lazy person that he is, is opposing the entire change, just because of its inherent nature … change. The person just like the car, lurches forward out of his rut and into the new direction given to his course. Heading for the unknown.

Ever have one of those days where you keep on getting this strange foreboding sensation … that the sh*t is about to hit the fan?

Today is one of them … nothing remarkable, just another day in the office, but still … when your heart is in your throat in anticipation … do not ask me anticipation of what. If I knew, then I would be a much happier person.

Makes me appreciate the Fear of the Dark – Iron Maiden :-)
