Why I don’t care about Lok Pal?

With too many blogs, media shows and news announcements on the Lok Pal Bill, I thought I would add my $0.02 on the subject.

I confess that I am no expert on this, but neither do I want to be. I do not want to add to the voice of social passivism.

It’s sad to think that the country would require one support system to keep other support systems in check which were meant to do their job. That’s it in a nut shell.

What guarantee do we have that the Lok Pal committee will not do their jobs?

Here’s my favorite quote which is so apt in this context – Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

    1. Whoa .. Mukta, the social activist in you is agreeing with the social passivism in this post!

Yes, it does give false hopes, and that’s that.

  1. ok, As you have mentioned its a pathetic state to see we need a system to support existing system. False hopes.. umm may be. But atleast the punishment to the guilty is more if Lokpal gets implemented.

    1. Hi Durga, and that’s the problem. It’s not as if there are not any systems to take care of corruption. There are, but the systems themselves are corrupt. So what guarantee is there that the Lok Pal committe wont fall to the same fate?

      1. no specific gaurantee. I have built up my hopes only because I have seen what karnataka Lokyukta could do (headed by Santosh Hedge) and ‘hoping’ something similar will happen if Lokpal is in place. yes their might be corrupt lokyuktas in other states, i don’t know there stories. But there seems to be a clause in the Lokpal bill that incase someone is found corrupt within its vicinities, a complaint can be lodged in supreme court.

        1. There are always loopholes Durga. I don’t want to be a skeptic for the country, however, I would rather hope for something which works than hoping for an ideal system. After all this hue and cry, how is the average citizen impacted … no change. It’s a prime example of all talk and no action.
