Can someone tell me why

  • Fares are never in round numbers
  • The meter reading is never in actual rupees (don’t tell me there are digital meters, why could they not figure this out earlier??)
  • If it is a public service, then the driver can still say no to you
  • The petrol price and meter price are not Cause and Effect
  • The minimum fare changes from city to city, although the average price of fuel and the distance traveled is pretty much the same

Man, I was wondering why the feed wasn’t working! Good to see the new blog design :-) !

“Fares are never in round numbers”
Because Autos & Cab wallah go round & round and take least shortest route possible to the destination.

I guess even the ministry doesn’t know the answers. The ministry doesn’t know any answers anyway! :-)

I can explain one of them- The minimum fare changes from city to city depending on the traffic density and the purchase power parity of the people dwelling there. Although I personally think all kinds of people dwell at all the places, in different numbers.

kida bhai…fares are of course in round numbers to the closest 20p in other cities and 10p in mumbai…didnt get ur q here !

the reading is also in actual rupees in chennai/hyd etc but not mumbai…coz in mumbai, the 100rs mark is quickly churned out in a trip…unlike other places….

the hindrance to embrace digi meteres or reflect any price change is the vast cost of implementation…and like mayur said, it depends on various factors of the city…and yeah supply-demand :)

Come to US and you will see actual fare on the meter (plus tip).
